I’ve recently read the first three books of the Expanse (Leviathan Wakes, Caliban’s War and Abaddon’s Gate) and I loved them, The Expanse might be my favorite Scifi series of books.
One of my favorite things in The Expanse is how the technology is portrayed. Technologies are familiar and believable, and even though the basis of space travel is the very fictional Epstein Drive engine, journeys are made by accelerating until the mid-distance, flipping the ship around and decelerating for the rest of the distance. The main limitation on a ship’s speed is how much acceleration the human body can handle. No faster than light speed and sudden stops in space. Also, ships are built like buildings, vertically with stacked levels, so they are able to use the ship’s constant acceleration while traveling as usable artificial gravity.
Because I’m a big fan of the books, I’m very interested and curious in SyFy’s TV show. I only watched a few episodes, but it looks promising although not as good as the books (as it is usually the case). If you’re a scifi fan, read the books first.
